Epoxy Micaceous Iron Oxide Intermediate Paint (2K)

Description

Epoxy Micaceous Iron Oxide Intermediate Paint (2-component) is made by blending epoxy resin, micaceous iron oxide, anti-rust pigments, and solvents. The epoxy curing agent is added in proportion during use. It is widely used as an intermediate coating for metal protection in ships, containers, ports, piers, offshore platforms, bridges, mechanical and electrical products, as well as in the petroleum and chemical industries.

Best For

  • steel structure protection
  • industrial floor systems
  • heavy-duty anti-corrosion projects

Buyer Benefits

  • strong adhesion to prepared substrates
  • good chemical resistance
  • suitable for multi-coat protective systems

Key Features

  • Excellent anti-rust performance.
  • Excellent water resistance.
  • Firm and tough adhesion.

Typical Coating System

Typical epoxy system: epoxy primer, optional epoxy intermediate coat, and polyurethane or fluorocarbon topcoat when exterior color and weather resistance are required.

Application Guide

Application Method 1. Surface Preparation: Steel coated with zinc-rich primer: Remove all oil stains, debris, and zinc salts. Galvanized steel: Use pneumatic or electric flexible grinding wheels to polish and remove all oil stains, debris, and zinc salts. For underwater parts, surface treatment must be performed using sandblasting. Steel: Conduct sandblasting treatment to Sa2.5 level. Steel coated with shop primer: For damaged areas of the paint film, rusted areas, and white rust on the zinc-containing primer, carry out secondary rust removal. Remove all white rust and polish to St3 level. 2. Painting Method Thinner: Epoxy thinner (for both airless spraying and air spraying). Dilution Amount: 0-15% (for both airless spraying and air spraying). Nozzle Diameter: 0.4 - 0.5mm (airless spraying); 2.0 - 3.0mm (air spraying). Spraying Pressure: 15 - 17MPa (approximately 150 - 170 Kg/cm², airless spraying); 0.3 - 0.4MPa (approximately 3 - 4 Kg/cm², air spraying). Cleaner: Epoxy thinner. 3. Recommended Number of Coats One coat by airless spraying with a dry film thickness of 80 - 100 µm. For brushing or rolling, 2 - 3 coats are required. 4. Painting Interval Substrate temperature: The minimum interval is 48 hours at 5°C, 24 hours at 20°C, and 16 hours at 30°C. There is no limit on the maximum interval. For epoxy micaceous iron oxide paint, when the paint film surface is not chalked or contaminated by other substances, there is generally no limit on the maximum painting interval. However, painting the next coat before the paint film is completely cured will achieve the best interlayer adhesion. If the paint film is exposed to the atmosphere for an extended period before applying the next coat, special attention should be paid to cleaning the paint film surface and removing the chalked layer by sanding to achieve good adhesion. If the paint film is too thick, it will develop a smooth surface. Before applying the next topcoat, sandpaper should be used to roughen the surface, improving interlayer adhesion. 5. Compatible Primer Paints Epoxy zinc-rich paint, inorganic zinc silicate anti-rust paint, epoxy zinc phosphate anti-rust paint, and other epoxy anti-rust paints. It can be applied directly to steel surfaces with rust removal quality meeting Sa2.5 level or to roughened aluminum alloy surfaces. 6. Compatible Top-Coat Paints Polyurethane topcoat, chlorinated rubber topcoat, acrylic topcoat, epoxy topcoat, epoxy asphalt anti-rust paint, alkyd topcoat, fluorocarbon topcoat, etc.
